What is your turnaround time?

It’ll depend on my schedule and the complexity of your manuscript, but here are some rough estimates for ~80,000 words:

Developmental Editing: 5-6 weeks
Manuscript Critique: 3-4 weeks
Manuscript Assessment: 2 weeks
Line & Copy-editing: 3-4 weeks
Proof-editing: 2-3 weeks
Proofreading: 2 weeks

Question 2

Do you use AI?

No. As stated in my T&Cs, I do not use AI in my editing process, and it goes without saying that I won’t upload your manuscript into LLMs (or AI-detection software, for that matter). You can view my T&Cs here.

I also have no intention of working with AI-generated manuscripts. I value human creativity and imagination, so that’s what I want to work with.

Can I request a sample edit?

Yes! I offer a free sample edit for developmental editing or line & copy-editing of up to 500 words so you can see my editing style before committing.Please send a chapter from the middle of your draft.

Which style guides do you use?

I’m happy to work with either New Hart’s Rules (NHR) or The Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition (CMOS).

Can I combine services?

I’d be delighted to guide your manuscript through multiple stages of the editing process! However, I don’t carry out multiple editing services at the same time, as editing works best with time for revisions in-between.For example, there’s little benefit in combining developmental editing with line and copy-editing, as parts of the manuscript may change significantly, and you may end up paying for work that is later removed during revisions. My goal is to ensure you receive the best possible service without unnecessary costs.If you plan to continue to the next stage, you’re very welcome to get in touch early to discuss availability and secure space in my schedule. Returning clients receive a loyalty rate on subsequent services. If you’ve booked a manuscript assessment, the £90 fee will be credited toward the same project if further editing is booked.Each stage is booked and invoiced separately, and a 50% deposit is required before the start of each stage to confirm your booking.Please note that the final proofread should ideally be carried out by someone with a fresh set of eyes.

Do you work with other genres?

For proof-editing and proofreading, I work with all fiction genres.If your novel contains a significant romance subplot I can also provide bigger-picture feedback to help strengthen that element of the story.

Do you offer a rush service?

Yes, for manuscript assessments, line & copy-editing, proof-editing and proofreading. An additional fee (30%) applies.

Do you work with clients outside of the UK?

Yes, as long as your manuscript is written in either American or British English, I’m happy to work with you, no matter where you are!
