Manuscript Assessment
Not sure whether your story is heading in the right direction? Get a fresh editorial perspective and some guidance on how your manuscript might land with your intended readers.

Get a clear, thoughtful overview of your work in progress: an opportunity to step back from the manuscript and see what’s working, where it could be strengthened, and what might be worth considering before you take it any further.
You’ll receive a short editorial letter of approximately 3 pages, rather than comments throughout your manuscript. I’ll highlight what’s working particularly well, flag areas that may need more attention, consider how the story is meeting the expectations of its genre and readership, and offer practical, constructive guidance on your next steps.
I’m also very happy to address any specific questions you have. If there’s something you’re unsure about, tell me – I’d much rather make the assessment genuinely useful to you than give you a generic report.
And if you return within six months for another edit, I’ll deduct the cost of this assessment from your next booking.
Why not call it beta reading?
As an editor, I bring an editorial perspective to every manuscript I read. You’ll get the reader’s perspective you’d expect from a beta read, enriched by my editorial expertise – which is why I call this service a manuscript assessment.
I don’t want to call it a traditional beta read when I’ll naturally bring my editorial experience to the table. I pride myself on the guidance I offer, and I’m not going to hold that back just because you’ve booked a read from a reader’s perspective.
