Proof-editing
It’s the perfect middle ground if you don’t need a full line and copy-edit, but still want your book to be polished, consistent and as error-free as possible before it goes out into the world.
Proof-editing is a combination of copy-editing and proofreading, and I’ll be the final editor working on your manuscript.
This service is ideal if you’ve already done the hard work of refining your writing and are happy with the story and prose, but would like another careful pair of eyes on the finished manuscript.
It’s also a good option if you’re working to a tighter budget and want that final layer of editorial polish without the more extensive work involved in a full line and copy-edit.
Proof-editing is deliberately focused on the final polish, so it does not include a line edit, an editorial report, or a style sheet. I won’t be reshaping your prose or providing the detailed editorial guidance that comes with my Line & Copy-Editing service.
Is Your Manuscript Ready to Publish?
The manuscript should already be in a state where you’re happy with the writing itself and are looking for that final editorial check.
This includes checking grammar, punctuation, spelling, syntax, capitalisation and hyphenation, as well as consistency, repetition, missing or repeated words, dialogue tags and action beats, point of view, clarity and basic fact-checking.

​I’ll also keep an eye out for potential issues with stereotypes, misrepresentation, marginalisation and other sensitive content, and will flag potential copyright or libel concerns where they arise. Your Word document will be formatted consistently using Styles, including indentation, paragraph styles and section breaks.

My proof-edit also includes identifying hooks and highlights you can use for social media.

At the end of the edit, you’ll receive three versions of your manuscript:
Tracked: all changes shown, with comments enabled so you can see and consider my suggestions.
Accepted with comments: all changes accepted, while the comments remain visible for you to review.
Clean: all changes accepted, with comments removed and the manuscript ready for you to use.
